A Short Story

my journey to now

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Kristin. She was born in the river valley in Arkansas in the shadow of the Ozark mountains. She was born on a Thursday and as the poem says – “has far to go.” Little Kristin had big dreams and always knew she wanted more than The Natural State could offer.

As little Kristin grew up, she craved a world that had structure and made sense. Her school books were stacked just right in her desk. She would ask her mom if she could organize the mail when it was scattered on the kitchen table. And, of course, as a 90’s kid, she watched a lot of movies and television shows with her older brother and had a vivid imagination. Cartoons set in a faraway land inspired her to dream of the places she could go.

One day, many years later, Kristin neatly packed her bags and drove to the mountains! A thousand miles later, she arrived in a magical land of flatirons and wild flowers. She was by herself but not alone. She made friends wherever she went; Her optimistic attitude is magnetic. One day on the steps of the library, Kristin met her prince charming. She didn’t know what was to come, and she danced head-on into the adventure.

There were many obstacles in Kristin’s path, and she didn’t let them stop her! She tirelessly worked to establish herself in an industry where her passion for organization and love of make-believe could be combined. Kristin climbed the ladder of the entertainment industry and managed to make lifelong friends in a competitive industry. As the chaos of filmmaking whirled around her, her friendly face beamed like a lighthouse in the storm.

As time went on, Kristin and her prince charming, in their modest castle in Littleton, had a daughter who would one day be named queen. Kristin integrated herself into a close-knit work-family, loving and laughing her way through the work day.

And then suddenly, on a warm day in March, the big, bad lay-off monster struck Kristin down. Kristin is not the type of woman to lie down when life trips her up. She dried her tears, dusted herself off, and began to hustle.
